Plastic Surgery Procedures Performed After Massive Weight Loss
Modern medical procedures such as bariatric surgery, lap bad surgery and gastric bypass surgery are helping a number of severely obese people lose weight easier then ever before. Contact a plastic surgeon to learn more. Unfortunately, massive weight loss often results in excess skin that can sag and hang, giving the body an unsightly appearance. Fortunately, there are a number of different plastic surgery procedures that can be performed after massive weight loss to help reshape and contour the body.
Abdominoplasty
An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is a cosmetic procedure that helps to reduce the amount of fat and excess skin from the abdomen. During an abdominoplasty, damaged abdominal muscles are also repaired to help give the stomach a more sleek and shapely appearance.
Upper Body Lift
After massive weight loss, a great portion of the upper body may sag from skin that has been stretched out to the point it has lost some of its elasticity. An upper body lift will remove this excess skin and subcutaneous tissue from the axilla, or armpit area, and back. The upper body lift will not however, remove excess skin from the arms.
Brachioplasty
A brachioplasty, or upper arm lift, is the cosmetic procedure that is used to remove hanging, excess skin from the upper arms of the body.
Lower Body Lift
A lower body lift consists of three different procedures that will remove skin from the thigh and buttock area. A thigh/buttock lift will remove excess skin from the front and inner part of the buttock and thigh. A medial thigh lift will help shape the inner part of the thigh if a buttocks lift is not necessary, and a lateral thigh lift will treat the back and outer sections of the buttocks, thighs, and hips.
Mastopexy and Breast Augmentation (For Women)
After massive weight loss, a woman’s breasts may sag and not be proportionate to the rest of her body. A mastopexy, or breast lift, can help lift the breasts back into place. A breast augmentation may also be used to increase and shape the breast size so they are more proportionate to her body.
Facelift and Neck Lift
If an excessive amount of weight was lost in the face and neck, a face lift or neck lift can help to remove excess hanging skin as well as repair damaged facial muscles to tighten facial skin.
