Bringing out Your Best Features with Top Rhinoplasty

    Published on November 11, 2014

One of the most frequently requested plastic surgery procedures is the “nose job” or rhinoplasty.  It’s amazing the difference this one change can have on your entire face.  The right rhinoplasty will make your nose blend with the rest of your features and make all that’s most attractive about your face stand out.

With over 200,000 nose-reshaping procedures performed last year alone, rhinoplasty operations have become routine and very safe.  Top plastic surgeons, experienced in this operation perform many such operations each week.

Some reasons men, women and teens seek nose reshaping surgery include:

    Trouble breathing through the nose

A bump or hump on the bridge of the nose

A nose that’s too large for the rest of the face

Less frequently, a nose that is too small for the face

A nose that is otherwise misshapen

Someone has been involved in an accident or suffered a sports injury to the face

The Procedure:  Top plastic surgeons around the country use two basic methods while performing a nose reshaping.  One is called the “closed” procedure and one is termed “open” procedure.  The difference between these two is in the nature or approach and extent of visibility of the internal nasal structures.

With an open procedure a small incision is made across the columnella, the narrow vertical strip of tissue that separates the nostrils.

During a closed procedure the incision is hidden inside the nose.

Which of the two approaches your plastic surgeon decides to take will depend on the nature and extent of the work that needs to be done to give you the exact type of profile you’re looking for.

An overly large nose may be made smaller by removing bone or cartilage.  If a particular surgery requires the addition of cartilage, this can usually be taken from the septum, the partition in the middle of the nose.  In cases where nose surgery is being done to correct breathing problems due to a deviated septum, this can be straightened and the projections inside the nose reduced to make breathing through the nose easier.

Rhinoplasty surgery is commonly done on an outpatient basis under general anesthetic.  Depending on the extent of work required, the procedure takes from one to four hours.

Recovery from rhinoplasty is not difficult.  A patient will normally have 2 to 4 days of discomfort and 7 to 10 days of bruising and swelling.  Most people can go back to work at a light duty or desk job in about a week to a week and a half.

If you are in any way displeased with the affect your nose is having on the overall features and balance of your face, schedule an appointment with a top cosmetic surgeon.  Here you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns and look at some before and after photos.  You’ll likely be amazed at the improvement in overall facial appearance a rhinoplasty can achieve.
