What Rhinoplasty Nose Surgery at Our Columbus, Ohio Office Can Do for You
Your nose has many components, and virtually all of them can be changed with a safe and effective rhinoplasty procedure at the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery. With our procedure, you can improve or enhance the tip of your nose so that it's sharper, less prominent, narrower, smaller, has less droop, or is turned up or down. Some people have a “bump” just below the bridge of the nose. This is a fairly common reason for rhinoplasty surgery. You may have a nose that is too wide and would like it narrowed. You can have all of these features improved or enhanced with nose reshaping rhinoplasty surgery.
If you would like to speak with Dr. Shah about rhinoplasty nose surgery, contact our Columbus, Ohio office today to discuss this procedure and what it can do for you.
Rhinoplasty Nose Surgery and Breathing
Rhinoplasty nose surgery can also help patients who have breathing difficulties due to problems with the septum. The septum is that part of your nose that separates the left and right sides. A deviated septum can prevent air from passing through one or both nostrils. Breathing difficulties can be treated at our office through surgery of the septum - or septoplasty. This procedure is often covered by your insurance company. If you would like to learn more about improving your breathing and enhancing the appearance of your nose through rhinoplasty surgery, contact our Columbus, Ohio office today.
About Rhinoplasty Nose Surgery
Rhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure, which means that you will be able to go home the same day as your surgery. Rhinoplasty nose surgery can take as little as one and a half hours, but may take longer depending on your individual case. After the surgery, we will monitor you in our recovery area for about one hour. When this brief period is complete, you can go home and rest.
A rhinoplasty incision can be performed either on the inside of the nose (closed rhinoplasty), or a small incision can be made in the middle of the nose.
Your Recovery
In general, recovery from rhinoplasty nose surgery is relatively easy, and our Columbus, Ohio staff will support you with help and advice each step of the way. Most people have some discomfort for about three to five days after the operation. This is easily controlled with pain medication prescribed by Dr. Bivik Shah. Immediately after rhinoplasty nose surgery, Dr. Shah will place a splint on your nose to maintain the desired result during the initial recovery period. You will have significant swelling, and sometimes bruising, around the eyes that can last for about 10 to 14 days. The last little bit of swelling may take up to a year to go away. This is not swelling that you or anyone else will notice, but it is just enough that you will not see the final result of your surgery for six months to a year.
Every Surgery Has Risks
Before deciding to have rhinoplasty nose surgery, or any plastic surgery, it is important to speak with Dr. Shah at his Columbus, Ohio office. This way, Dr. Shah can fully inform you of both the benefits and risks of his procedures. With any surgery, there is a risk of infection or bleeding. Also, with rhinoplasty nose surgery, there is a rare possibility that your breathing would worsen, or that your scars may not heal well. Sometimes, a touch-up surgery is needed to achieve the perfect shape for your face or body.
