Among the most requested plastic surgery procedures, both here in the United States and abroad is the butt augmentation.

With a buttocks augmentation procedure a small or flat butt can be made full and rounded and a rear end that is sagging with age can become perky and shapely again.

However, to get the best butt augmentation possible it’s good to understand the different procedures and the options you and your cosmetic surgeon have.

The two major categories of butt lift are butt augmentation with implants and butt augmentation with fat grafting (sometimes call a Brazilian Butt Lift).

Buttock Augmentation With Implants

During a butt augmentation with implants, a top plastic surgeon will surgically insert specially designed silicone implants into the appropriate positions in the buttocks. The size and shape of the implants will have been decided upon during one of your consultations with your doctor.

After the implant has been correctly placed in the buttocks, near the gluteal muscle your cosmetic surgeon will close the incisions with layered sutures and surgical tape.

The procedure takes from one to two hours and is done under anesthesia on an outpatient basis.

Healing time differs from patient to patient, but most patients can be back working their normal daily activities within a week to ten days.

Buttock Augmentation with Fat Transfer or a Brazilian Butt Lift

A butt augmentation with fat transfer is quite a different procedure and requirements for getting this surgery include having deposits of excess fat.

In a Brazilian Butt Lift, a liposuction is used to remove excess fat from places such as the abdomen, upper back, and “love handles”. The fat is then processed for injection into precisely chosen areas of the buttocks.

This type of butt augmentation results in the most natural-looking and feeling buttocks. With a fat transfer augmentation method, the size of the buttocks may decrease (or increase) over time. As you gain or lose weight, the transferred fat can grow or shrink as would any other normal fat anywhere else in your body.

Your plastic surgeon will go over these procedures with you during your consultation. Some of the factors you will discuss include the current shape and size of your butt, your personal goals regarding the appearance of that part of your anatomy, your activity level, the elasticity of your skin, and the amount of excess fat you have available.

With either augmentation procedure, you will find your buttocks to be larger, firmer, and shapelier than ever before.
