Best Breast Augmentation for a Fuller and Shapelier Form

    Published on December 5, 2014

Some women feel their breasts are too small, elongated, asymmetrical or losing fullness due to advancing age, pregnancy, or weight loss.

If you are concerned about the size or shape of your breasts you may want to talk to a plastic surgeon about the choices you have for getting the breast shape and size you have always wanted.

Here are some breast augmentation options for you to consider.

In a breast augmentation procedure implants are surgically placed within the breast in order to increase fullness and improve symmetry.

There are two types of breast implants for you to consider.

Silicone Implants are shells filled with silicone gel that are surgically placed (implanted) inside a woman’s breasts. The implants come in a variety of sizes and shapes.

One type of silicone implant is called the gummy bear breast implant.  These are also referred to as form-stable implants because they maintain their shape even if the implant shell is broken.  The consistency of the gel inside the implant is thicker and the implant is firmer than the traditional silicone implants.

Rather than being round, gummy bear implants have more projection at the bottom and tapering toward the top, giving a natural appearance.  However, if the gummy bear implant rotates, it may lead to an unusual appearance of the breast.

Another type of silicone implant is the round implant.  Round breast implants can achieve more projection and can give the breasts a fuller appearance than the form-stable (gummy bear) implants.  And because round implants are of a consistent shape, there is less concern about rotation or displacement.

Another option to discuss with your plastic surgeon is the choice between textured and smooth breast implants.

Smooth implants are the softest feeling and since they can move with the breast implant pocket they display more natural movement.

Textured breast implants will develop scar tissue whicj sticks to the implant, making them less likely to move out of position within the breast.

Saline Implantsare silicone shells filled with sterile saline (salt water).

One of the benefits of saline implantsis thatthey allow more precise sizing.  Whereas silicone implants come in sizes from the manufacturer, your surgeon fills saline implants at the time of the procedure.

Another advantage of saline implants is that, if they leak, they leak quickly and the sterile solution is naturally absorbed by the body without harm.

Fat transfer breast augmentationis an option for women seeking a relatively small increase in the size of their breasts.  With the fat transfer procedure the surgeon, with the use of liposuction, removes fat from other parts of the body, processes and liquefies the fat, and injects it into the breasts.

Whichever procedure you end up choosing, make sure you always follow your surgeons advice regarding after-care and routine examinations.

Your plastic surgeon will discuss these options with you more fully, explaining in detail the benefits, drawbacks and risks of each.

Any decision regarding getting breast augmentation is a very personal one; make it based on good information from a top board certified plastic surgeon and your own goals and desires.
