    Non Surgical Nose Reshaping

    Published on October 10, 2013

    Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Options

Nose surgery, known technically as “rhinoplasty,” improves the shape and proportion of the nose. However, this surgery is fairly complex, requiring incisions either across the narrow strip of tissue between the nostrils or within the nose to allow the surgeon access to reshape the underlying structure. Although rhinoplasty is a great way to correct major deformations and make significant improvements to the nose, less invasive options for nose reshaping include using fat grafting or injectable fillers.

Fat Grafting or Injectable Fillers for Nose Reshaping

Fat grafting and injectable fillers are safe and effective for making adjustments to the appearance of the nose in just 30 to 60 minutes without surgery. Fat grafting removes fat from one section of the body and injects it into another area to fill it or add plumpness. The other option for non-surgical nose reshaping is injectable fillers. Dr. Shah generally uses Restylane® or Juvederm® for this procedure, and these fillers are made of a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid that helps add hydration and volume to the skin. As your surgeon carefully and strategically injects either your own fat cells or one of the hyaluronic acid formulas into certain areas of the nose, imperfections are filled to create a more attractive nasal shape.

This method for non-surgical nose reshaping can provide minimal to moderate correction of nasal imperfections. A small indentation or bump on the bridge is the most common nasal feature that can be revised with fat grafting or fillers. Depending on the area of main concern, this technique can often correct a nose that is asymmetrical or disproportionate to the rest of the face. The tip or bridge of the nose can also be raised, and in some cases the nose can be straightened. However, fat grafting and fillers cannot make major alterations to the nose nor can they correct a large nose or wide nostrils.

This procedure is a wonderful way to get the nose you want without the unfavorable aspects of surgery. Fat grafting and fillers have fewer risks associated with their injections than traditional rhinoplasty, and their cost of treatment is significantly lower than rhinoplasty. While surgery may require weeks of downtime, this non-surgical approach does not necessitate any time for recovery and has no pain associated with treatment. Patients can return to their normal activities and enjoy their results immediately. Bruising is rare, and if it does occur it will resolve in just a few days. Fillers and fat injections do not result in any scarring because no incisions are made. However, fillers do require future treatments in order to maintain results over time.
