    What is Botox Columbus

Learn about what exactly is BOTOX® Cosmetic!

BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to remove or reduce wrinkles and lines on the face.

You’ve probably heard about BOTOX® Cosmetic all over! Well here’s the 411 on it.

It is a chemical that causes wrinkles and lines on the face to fade. You will see dramatic, real results in just a few days.

The best place to have BOTOX® Cosmetic is at a plastic surgeon or dermatology office because they are specifically trained to give BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. Often places that are non-plastic surgeons or dermatologists, such as family physicians, emergency room doctors, gynecologists, and other specialties provide BOTOX® Cosmetic, but this is not what the bulk of their training was devoted to! Be safe and smart.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a medication that can only be injected by a medical professional, hopefully in a top plastic surgeon’s office. It is injected into the muscle and used to improve the look of moderate to severe lines that are caused by muscles underneath the skin.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is not surgery! It is a simple, nonsurgical treatment that is performed in the office, as tiny injections into the muscle. The treatment itself is quick, easy, and can be done in under 30 minutes. Botox requires zero downtime, so most people are able to go back to work within an hour. You can resume normal activity after treatment, but avoid rubbing or massaging the injected area.

    Important Facts about BOTOX® Cosmetic

How long does it take to work – You will see real, dramatic, and significant results in 5 – 7 days

Is it safe? BOTOX® Cosmetic is very safe.  There are some rare risks of allergic reactions and infection and bleeding, but they would be extremely rare.

Do a lot of people have this treatment?  By 2012, 11,8 million people have already had BOTOX® Cosmetic

    Technical Details

Technically, it is called a "neuromodulator".  This means it is a chemical that works on nerve endings so that the muscle cannot contract.  When muscles contract, they cause the skin overlying to wrinkle.  This would be the same as a bed sheet that is tight and you take your fist and crumple it – the muscle is your fist, and the bed sheet it your skin.

By making it so that the muscle cannot contract, the skin cannot crumple so there will be no wrinkle!  It's that simple.  That is why Botox is only used on places where a muscle is causing the wrinkle – glablelar ( frown lines between the eyebrows), forehead lines, crow's feet, lip lines, and neck lines.
