    Male Plastic Surgery Procedures Columbus

Over the past few years, more and more men have been realizing that their appearance has an immense effect on the way that they are perceived by others. As a result, many have started to consider plastic surgery as a means to improve both their appearance and their self-confidence in personal and business matters. Enhanced technology and surgical techniques mean that healing times are much shorter than in the past; men can change they way they look with a minimum of downtime and inconvenience. Some of the most popular types of male plastic surgery are gynecomastia correction and rhinoplasty. Columbus, Ohio surgeon Bivik Shah offers these and an array of other procedures to their male clients. Dr. Shah is careful to take into account the unique considerations of male plastic surgery, including skin thickness, overall body type, and the prevalence of facial and body hair.

    Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia, or the condition of breast development in a man, is a fairly common condition, estimated to affect up to 60 percent of American men. Although it does not pose any particular health risks, many men with gynecomastia come to the Columbus, Ohio Institute of Plastic Surgery to have the excess skin and tissue removed for aesthetic reasons. The development of male breast tissue can be attributable to several causes, including weight gain, use of certain drugs, and disease of the thyroid or liver. Fortunately, if you have gynecomastia, Ohio doctor Bivik Shah can easily correct it, allowing you to regain your confidence and an attractive physique.

If your gynecomastia is due to the use of such drugs as anabolic steroids, alcohol, or marijuana, Dr. Shah will not perform gynecomastia correction surgery until you have stopped ingesting these substances; in many cases, once the drugs are flushed from the body, gynecomastia will resolve itself without the need for surgery. Also, if your breast development has been caused by obesity, you may not be an ideal candidate for gynecomastia correction; Columbus surgeon Bivik Shah may suggest that you attempt to lose the weight through more traditional means.

Men with other causes of breast development are the best candidates for gynecomastia correction. When you come to the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Shah will evaluate your condition, taking into account such factors as your overall health, skin elasticity, and the amount of tissue that needs to be removed. They will then decide on the surgery method that is right for you. In most cases, Dr. Shah can correct gynecomastia with liposuction, which requires that only a small incision be made. This method results in very little noticeable scarring. If your case is more extensive, Dr. Shah may need to make a larger incision; however, most patients find that the benefits of the surgery outweigh the chances of being left with a visible scar.

As in post-bariatric breast surgery, you may need to wear a compression garment for several weeks following your surgery. Swelling and mild discomfort are common following gynecomastia treatment, but will subside with time. Most men are able to return to work within a few days of undergoing the procedure, provided that they do not perform any heavy lifting.

If you find yourself avoiding social situations like pool parties or trips to the beach because you are self-conscious about the appearance of your chest, you may be a good candidate for gynecomastia correction. Columbus, Ohio doctor Bivik Shah invites you to contact the Institute of Plastic Surgery for a consultation.

    Rhinoplasty

Because an attractive nose can enhance a man’s face dramatically, rhinoplasty at the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery is one of our most popular male plastic surgery procedures. Ohio doctor Bivik Shah has had multiple patients who, unhappy with the appearance of their noses for most of their lives, say that their confidence and pride were restored after rhinoplasty. Other typical patients include men who have deformities, or who have damaged their noses in disfiguring accidents, and would like their noses to be made “normal.”

No matter what the reason for wanting rhinoplasty, you should expect Dr. Shah to perform a thorough consultation and examination. It is very important for you to be honest with Dr. Shah about your desired outcome and other expectations because rhinoplasty requires as much artistry as it does medical expertise. In order to ensure that your surgery goes as smoothly as possible, be sure to tell Dr. Shah about any medications that you are currently taking, as well as whether you have had any previous nose surgeries or injuries.

Most rhinoplasty procedures at the Columbus office of Dr. Bivik Shah take about two hours. Depending on the extent of the procedure, either local or general anesthesia will be used. During the surgery, Dr. Shah will separate the skin on the nose from the underlying tissue; he will then reshape the bone and cartilage into the desired shape. Incisions are usually made in very inconspicuous locations, such as between the nostrils or inside the nose itself. After the surgery is complete, a splint and bandage will be applied, and you will be able to go home.

For the first two days, you will probably experience a dull, aching sensation, which is normal and can be controlled with pain medication that will be prescribed to you. Swelling and bruising will also occur, most of which will subside within two weeks. You may experience subtle residual swelling for two months after the surgery, but it is generally very difficult to notice. Rhinoplasty by Columbus surgeon Dr. Bivik Shah can dramatically improve your self-confidence, as well as the first impression that you make on new social acquaintances and business partners. Contact the Institute of Plastic Surgery to find out more about this procedure and whether it is right for you.

    Liposuction

Liposuction in the context of male plastic surgery generally focuses on removing excess areas of fat at the waist, commonly called “love handles.” Most men experience fat accumulation in this area of the body, usually as they age. Liposuction is an excellent option for men who would like a trimmer waistline, but who haven’t been able to achieve it through diet and exercise.

As with liposuction in other areas of the body, the removal of love handles begins with tiny incisions made in the area around which the fat will be removed. Then fluid that contains numbing agents and other medication is introduced into the area. Using liposuction cannulas, which are small hollow tubes, Dr. Shah will remove both the liquid and accompanying fat through the same incisions. Read more about liposuction. When the procedure is complete, dressings will be placed over the incisions. You may experience some soreness and swelling for about two weeks.

Once the healing process is complete, the swelling will recede and you will be able to enjoy your new trim physique. To find out more about liposuction, or any other male plastic surgery procedures, contact Ohio surgeon Bivik Shah to schedule a consultation.

    Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a procedure that many men choose in order to revitalize their faces and achieve a more youthful and alert appearance. Used to remove excess fat and skin from the upper or lower eyelids, blepharoplasty is a procedure that can eliminate bags under eyes or eyelids that droop over the top of the eyes. If people often ask you if you are tired, or assume you are much older than you actually are, you may want to consider blepharoplasty at the Institute of Plastic Surgery.

The incisions for blepharoplasty are made either in the crease of the upper eyelid or just below the eyelashes in the lower lid. Dr. Shah then removes the required skin and fat, and may also trim any excess muscle. They then closes the incisions with very fine sutures that are intended to minimize scarring. You will need to rest, with your head elevated, for the first two or three days following surgery, after which you may feel well enough to read or watch television. Most men find that they are able to return to work within seven to ten days of having the surgery. Because eyelids are especially delicate, Dr. Shah will provide you with very specific postoperative care instructions, and it is important that you follow them as closely as possible. Read more about blepharoplasty.

One of the most popular male plastic surgery procedures performed at Ohio’s Institute of Plastic Surgery, blepharoplasty can lift years from your face and restore your self-confidence. Implants in Male Plastic Surgery – Columbus, Ohio

You may have areas of your body with which you are unsatisfied and you find that you cannot change the way you look with diet and exercise! These areas usually cannot be improved through exercise because their shape is determined by bone and fat, rather than muscle. For these body parts, which usually include the chin and buttocks, Dr. Shah is proud to offer their patients the option of implants. With implants, the contours of your body are permanently altered to present a more attractive appearance. You will not have to worry about maintenance as you do with other aspects of your body that are managed through weightlifting or dieting.

    Buttock Implants

Often a problem with men who are otherwise very fit and trim, buttocks often take on a flat or sagging appearance as they age. To restore their youthful, muscular appearance, it is becoming more common for men to undergo buttock implant surgery. Custom crafted from soft, solid silicone, buttock implants are carefully sculpted to exactly match your current body shape.

Depending on the size of the implants and their required final location, Dr. Shah may make the incisions either in the crease between the buttock and the thigh, or between the buttocks, along the midline. The implants are then inserted underneath the covering of the gluteus maximus muscle, and Dr. Shah carefully examines the area to ensure symmetry and aesthetics. Finally, dissolvable stitches are applied, and a compression bandage is placed around the area.

Perhaps the most difficult part of this type of male plastic surgery is that patients cannot sit comfortably for several days and may need help in and out of bed for a few days after surgery. Since patients use the muscles in their buttocks in almost every motion they make, soreness is often more pronounced after this surgery than after other procedures. Most men find that they can return to work about a week after surgery, although it may take two or three months for the muscles to stretch around the implants and look natural.

    Chin Implants

A strong chin is widely recognized as a hallmark of handsome masculinity. Men who lack a defined chin structure may opt to receive a chin implant at the Institute of Plastic Surgery. Made of solid silicone, chin implants are a safe, effective, and permanent way to enhance the appearance of your face. Dr. Bivik Shah will discuss with you your goals and your vision of an ideal chin. They will then select an implant that complements your existing facial structure.

The incision for a chin implant is usually made inside the mouth to prevent visible scarring. Dr. Shah will insert the implant and use dissolvable sutures to close the incision. The entire procedure should take between 30 minutes and an hour. After the surgery, you will need to wear bandages on your chin for a few days, during which time you will experience difficulty in talking and smiling. Bruising and some swelling are normal and will recede within a week or so.

Whether you are considering implants, gynecomastia treatment, rhinoplasty, or another kind of male plastic surgery, Columbus, Ohio doctor Bivik Shah can answer your questions, address your concerns, and advise you on your best course of action. Join the millions of men in the United States who have chosen to improve their appearance and appeal through plastic surgery.
