He will also show you how to use a mirror technique to see how your lower body will look after the surgery.
If you are ready to transform your lower body after weight loss, contact Dr. Shah at the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery in Ohio. He will be glad to help you achieve your best shape.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
A belt lipectomy is a skin reduction surgery that removes excess skin and fat from the lower body. It can improve your shape and contour after significant weight loss, such as from bariatric surgery.
HOW LONG DOES BELT LIPECTOMY TAKE?
The surgery takes about four to five hours and requires general anesthesia. You will need to stay in the hospital for one or two nights. The recovery time varies, but most people can resume light activity in two to three weeks and feel fully recovered in two months.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY PROCESS FOR BELT LIPECTOMY?
You will need to wear a binder around your belly and back for six weeks to support the healing process. You will also have bolsters and drains attached to your incisions to prevent fluid accumulation and infection. You will be able to walk, lie down, and sit for short periods, but you will need someone to help you with daily tasks for the first few weeks. You should avoid any strenuous movements that could stress the incisions.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS FOR BELT LIPECTOMY?
A belt lipectomy will result in a firmer and smoother lower body, but it will also leave some scars. The main incision will be around your waistline, and sometimes another incision will be in the middle of your belly. Some patients may already have a vertical scar from their gastric bypass surgery. The scars will fade over time, but they will not disappear completely. However, most patients are very satisfied with their new appearance and improved quality of life. WHAT ARE THE RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS?
As with any major surgery, there are some risks and complications associated with a belt lipectomy. These include infection, bleeding, blood clots, incision separation, skin necrosis, and poor wound healing. To minimize these risks, you should choose a qualified and experienced surgeon, such as Dr. Bivik Shah of the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery.
