HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SURGEON
Finding the right surgeon for your breast augmentation is crucial. At CIPS, we want you to make an informed decision, so we suggest you ask these questions when comparing surgeons:
- Are they board certified in plastic surgery?
- Do they have a portfolio of their work?
- Do they offer the results you want?
- Do they have enough expertise and skill?
- Do they care about your personal goals and preferences?
If you can answer ‘Yes’ to all of these, you have found a good match. At CIPS, Dr. Bivik Shah meets all these criteria and more. He has over 20 years of experience and a stellar reputation.

BREAST AUGMENTATION INCISIONS
You have three main options for where the incision will be made:
- Breast crease: This is the most popular and preferred option. The scar is hidden and fades quickly. It also allows for better implant placement and fewer complications.
- Areolar: This is the second most common option. The scar is less noticeable, but there is a higher risk of losing sensation and breastfeeding ability.
- Armpit: This option avoids scarring on the breast, but it may result in wider implant spacing.
- Belly button: This option is new and not recommended. It is not tested and may cause problems.
TYPES OF BREAST IMPLANTS
You can choose from three types of breast implants, each with different shape, texture, size, and profile.
- Silicone Implants: The most popular and natural-feeling option. They are round, smooth, and filled with silicone gel. They come pre-filled in various sizes and profiles.
- Saline Implants: They are round, smooth, and filled with salt water. They are filled during the surgery and can be adjusted in size and profile. The main risk is rippling of the skin.
- Gummy Bear Implants: They are shaped like a teardrop, with more fullness at the bottom. They have a textured shell and are filled with a firmer gel. The main risk is rotation of the implant.
At CIPS, we offer two kinds of silicone implants: Smooth Round Gel and Memory Gel Xtra. The Smooth Round Gel has moderate plus, high, and ultra-high profiles. The Memory Gel Xtra has moderate plus and high profiles. We’ll help you choose the best implant type and profile for your desired look. Contact us today for more information.
LOOKS GREAT
I was welcomed and my needs were met. The procedure was explained thoroughly prior and after. I even received a call from the nurse a day after the surgery to check up on me. Not to mention my incision looks great.
Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IMPLANT SIZE DO I NEED?
Don’t worry too much about cup size. Implants are measured by CCs, and the same size can look different on different people. It depends on your breast tissue, frame, and shape. Our experienced surgeon will help you choose the best size for your goals.
WHERE IS THE IMPLANT LOCATION?
You can have the implant above or below the chest muscle. Below the muscle gives a more natural look, less risk of complications, and better mammograms. Above the muscle may be better for some people, like weightlifters. Our surgeon will advise you on the best option for you.
WHAT HAPPENS ON OPERATION DAY?
The day before your surgery, we’ll call you and tell you everything you need to know. You’ll need to arrive at our office about an hour before your surgery. We have two locations, so make sure you know which one to go to.
On the day of your surgery, you’ll:
- Change into a gown and talk to your nurse, anesthesiologist, and surgeon
- Get some medication to relax you before going to the operating room
- Meet the surgical team and go to sleep
- Wake up in recovery with your new breasts
- Spend an hour in recovery and wear a sports bra that opens in the front
WHAT IS BREAST AUGMENTATION RECOVERY LIKE?
The day after your surgery, our nurse will call you to check on you. You may have pain, soreness, and swelling for the first three days, but we’ll give you medication to manage it.
You’ll come back for a follow-up visit after a week. By then, you’ll feel much better and the swelling will go down.
You may be able to work again after three days, depending on your job and recovery. But don’t lift anything heavy or exercise for six weeks.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS?
Some risks of breast augmentation are:
- Bleeding that needs another surgery (5% chance)
- Infection that needs implant removal (very rare, we’ll give you antibiotics to prevent it)
- Visible scarring (everyone heals differently)
- Loss of nipple sensation (5% chance, less likely with breast crease incision)
- Implant displacement that needs correction (implant may move out of place)
- Implant rupture or leak (1% chance per year, not caused by normal activities, implants have lifetime warranty and fees coverage)
- Capsular contracture (10% to 25% chance, implant may harden and change shape, needs surgery to fix, may happen again)

SALINE BREAST IMPLANTS
Saline breast implants are filled with salt water and have a silicone shell. They are a popular option for women who want to enhance their breasts. Dr. Shah is an expert in using saline implants to achieve natural and beautiful results.
Benefits of Saline Implants
- Saline implants are very safe and do not cause any serious health problems.
- Saline implants are easy to adjust and can be filled to different sizes during surgery.
- Saline implants are less expensive than silicone gel implants.
Risks of Saline Implants
- Saline implants can leak or rupture, causing the implant to deflate and change shape. This can be easily detected and corrected with another surgery.
- Saline implants can cause capsular contracture, which is when the scar tissue around the implant tightens and squeezes it. This can make the implant feel hard, painful, or displaced. This can be treated with medication or surgery.
Dr. Shah and his team will explain all the details and answer all your questions during your consultation. They will help you choose the best implant type, size, shape, and texture for your goals and body type. Contact us today to schedule your appointment and learn more about saline breast implants.
SILICONE GEL BREAST IMPLANTS
Silicone gel breast implants are filled with a semi-solid silicone gel and have a silicone shell. They are designed to mimic the look and feel of natural breasts. Dr. Shah offers silicone gel breast implants at the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery for patients who want to enhance their breasts.
Benefits of Silicone Gel Implants
- Silicone gel implants are safe and approved by the FDA after 15 years of research12.
- Silicone gel implants are less likely to ripple, wrinkle, or fold than saline implants.
- Silicone gel implants are more durable and last longer than saline implants.
Risks of Silicone Gel Implants
- Silicone gel implants can rupture or leak, causing the implant to change shape or size. This can be hard to detect and may require an MRI34.
- Silicone gel implants can cause capsular contracture, which is when the scar tissue around the implant tightens and squeezes it. This can make the implant feel hard, painful, or displaced. This can be treated with medication or surgery.

SILICONE GEL BREAST IMPLANTS: A SAFE AND NATURAL CHOICE
After 15 years of research, the FDA approved silicone gel breast implants in 2006 . They are now available at the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery for women who want to enhance their breasts with a natural look and feel.
SALINE VS. SILICONE GEL: HOW TO CHOOSE?
Saline and silicone gel are the two main types of breast implants. They differ in their filling, shape, and texture. Saline implants are filled with salt water and silicone gel implants are filled with a semi-solid gel. Both types can be round or tear-drop shaped, smooth or textured. The staff at the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery will help you choose the best implants for your body and goals.
PROS AND CONS OF EACH TYPE
Saline implants are safer and cheaper than silicone gel implants. If they leak, the salt water is harmless and easily absorbed by the body
BREAST AUGMENTATION COST
The price of breast augmentation depends on: Anesthesia cost, Implant cost, Techniques used, and Surgery time.
