This 55-year-old woman from Groveport, Ohio came to Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery for liposuction. She was struggling to lose weight in her midsection and so she and Dr. Bivik Shah decided that her best option would be traditional liposuction. This is when the doctor injects Tumescent Fluid. This is a mixture of fluid that numbs the area and helps to control bruising. Then the fat is removed with a small cannula about the width of a pencil. There is quite a bit of swelling and mild bruising that goes along with recovery but these things ease up over time and could take up to about 6 months before the swelling is gone. The after photo here was taken 2 years, 5 months after liposuction.
