    Rise of the Rhino

    Published on March 24, 2014

    Increase in Rhinoplasty procedures

Located at the center of the face, the nose is perhaps the most noticeable feature of a person’s appearance. The nose is comprised of bones and cartilage, and its size and shape are influenced by various factors, including genetics, cultural background, injuries, and climate. As the nose fully develops over time, many people are satisfied with the way their nose looks. However, a large number of people are still left feeling unhappy with the appearance of their nose due to permanent imperfections.

Also known as nose surgery, a rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that improves the appearance of the nose and puts it in better harmony with the rest of the face. Even a small improvement of just a few millimeters of cartilage or bone can have a considerable impact on the overall appearance of the face. Since a rhinoplasty greatly improves the appearance of the face, it’s no wonder why it is the most frequently performed surgical procedure for men and women under 35 years of age.

Common imperfections of the nose that individuals wish to correct include:

    • Length

    • Width

    • Crooked bridge

    • Unbalanced profile

    • Thick tip

    • Size of the nostrils

    Rhinoplasty Procedure

After anesthesia is administered, rhinoplasty is performed using one of two incision methods. During an open rhinoplasty, incisions are made across the columella (tissue between the nostrils), while a closed rhinoplasty involves making incisions entirely inside of the nostrils. Both techniques require the soft tissues of the nose to be lifted in order to remove and re-sculpt the bone and cartilage. If breathing problems or the inner function of the nose needs improvement, then tissues inside will be restructured, and the nostrils may also be reshaped.

    Rhinoplasty Results

Rhinoplasty positively alters the size and/or shape of the nose to drastically improve a person’s facial appearance. Typically, patients are extremely satisfied with their new look and often develop a stronger sense of self-confidence once the final results become apparent.

Rhinoplasty is a very personalized surgical procedure and should only be performed by an extensively experienced surgeon. As the demand for nose surgery has steadily increased over the last few years, people from all over Ohio come to rhinoplasty specialist, Dr. Bivik Shah.
