The Eye Lift Can Revitalize Your Look

    Published on January 26, 2017

Droopy eyelids are a major reason why a lot of women consider blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). The procedure is used to remove excess tissue on the eyelids to tighten the area, imparting a more alert and youthful appearance. Blepharoplasty can also improve eyesight by correcting an obstructed field of vision. The procedure involves altering muscle, skin, and fat in the eyelids. In some cases, only the excess skin needs to be removed.

Are You an Ideal Candidate for the Surgery?

Generally, people with excess sagging and drooping skin around the eyes are well-suited for the procedure. Those with puffy bags under the eyes or fine lines on the eyelids are also excellent candidates for the eye lift.

Patients must bear in mind that although a cosmetic blepharoplasty can improve your appearance dramatically, the normal process of aging will continue, creating new age-related issues. Patients often repeat the procedure at some point in the future. Depending on your general health, the results of a blepharoplasty can last for as long as ten years.

    What Does the Procedure Entail?

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the lower eyelids, upper eyelids, or on both sets of eyelids at the same time. During the procedure, the surgeon will make incisions to access the underlying tissues. For upper eyelids, the incisions are created in the natural folds of the eyelid. For lower eyelids, they are made either just under the lashes or on the inner part of the eyelid. These incision locations ensure that the incisions remain unnoticeable once they have healed.

To prepare you for the blepharoplasty procedure, the surgeon will first use precise markings to identify the areas where excess fat, skin, and muscle need to be removed. The excess tissue is removed with the help of surgical instruments like surgical scissors and scalpels. Tissue adhesives or sutures are applied to smooth out and reconfigure the areas around the eyelids and eyebrows.

During the procedure, the surgeon will make a decision on the amount of skin, muscle, and fat that needs to be removed based on the preoperative evaluation of your bone structure, facial muscle structure, and eyebrow symmetry. In cases where the eyebrows are droopy, the surgeon can also perform an additional procedure to lift the eyebrows. This is referred to as a brow lift and involves making incisions in the scalp to tighten the skin and lift the eyebrows.
