This patient is a 48 year old African-American woman from Columbus, Ohio who wanted plastic surgery to her belly (abdomen). During her visit with the plastic surgeon, Dr. Bivik Shah at the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery, we discussed liposuction and/or a tummy-tuck. She decided to proceed with liposuction to the flanks and love handles as well as a tummy-tuck. The after pictures are 1 month after surgery, so she will actually look even smaller in about 3 – 4 months, because she is still swollen. With the liposuction we removed about 2 pounds of fat and with the tummy-tuck we removed about 2.2 pounds of skin and fat. As you can see, with plastic surgeons that have experience with patients of color, the scar can be very good.
