This 25 year old woman came to the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery for a full Rhinoplasty and Septoplasty (“nose job”). She had been unhappy with the appearance of her nose for quite some time, however, not only the appearance was the issue. She had trouble breathing out of her nose. To correct the appearance, the plastic surgeon, Dr. Bivik Shah corrected the hump of her nose by adjusting the bones and cartilage that make up the hump. He corrected the tip of her nose by ridding the cartilage there. Now her nose no longer angles downward. Also, he corrected the width of her nose by adjusting the nostrils and bringing them in some. To help with her breathing issues, Dr. Shah performed the septoplasty. The septum is the part of the nose that separates the left and right airway of the nose. If this is altered or crooked in any way, it can cause difficulty when trying to breath through the nose. Dr. Shah went in and reconstructed the septum to make it straight as it is supposed to be. Now this woman has neither issues with the appearance of her nose nor issues with breathing! The after photo here was taken a short 4 weeks after surgery. The healing will continue over the next year and a half after surgery.
